Over the last two weeks, I’ve been piecing together the edges and sorting the pieces by colour. This weekend should fill in the sky and leave the jigsaw almost complete. Twelve enthusiastic volunteers are converging on one of the ‘Custard Factory’ arts complex’s studio spaces tomorrow to turn 1250 copies of the Guardian into a series of trussed arches that will make up the prototype structure.

Bringing together the people, newspapers, tools, tables and venue for zero cost with volunteer time and goodwill has been a huge challenge but this weekend marks a serious moment in the whole process. If it’s successful, it will be a great pre-event demonstration that the project is on track, but there isn’t a great deal of time left to make changes.

Keep an eye out next Monday for the photos!
