It’s always hard to let an idea go, and hugely tempting to hang on to it long after it’s justified or even relevant.

One of the hardest skills to learn as a designer seems to be reducing the amount of emotional attachment you have to your designs. Taking stock of the current options and dispassionately dispatching the ones that you know can’t work can feel impossible. There’s a compromise though, and that’s to keep the old ideas in the metaphorical back pocket (or literal A3 folder). After all, the next project might require that exact solution.
